Tom Kaulitz este fratele geaman al lui Bill Kaulitz, chitaristul trupei Tokio Hotel. S-a nascut pe data de 1 septembrie 1989 īn Leipzig, Germania. După divorţul părinţilor, cānd gemenii aveau 7 ani, s-a mutat īmpreună cu mama şi cu fratele său īntr-un sat apropiat de Magdeburg, Loitsche. Mama lui s-a recăsătorit cu un chitarist, a unei trupe germane rock, Gordon Trumper, astfel a cunoscānd Tom pasiunea pentru chitară. Īn curānd invaţă să cānte foarte bine aşa că pune bazele unei noi trupe īmpreuna cu Bill, alaturi de Gustav si Georg, numita Devilish. Īncă fără succes, concertau īn mici cluburi din Magdeburg, pānă cānd, Bill a participat la un concurs "Star Search", pe care l-a castigat, remarcandu-se astfel īn faţa unui important producator, Petter Hoffman, care le-a facut rost de un contract cu casa de discuri Universal Music, astfel născandu-se Tokio Hotel. Tom, deşi chitarist īntr-o trupă rock, este un fan al muzicii hip-hop, avānd un stil total diferit faţă de ceilalti colegi ai săi. Adoră să poarte sepci, tricouri largi şi pantaloni baggy, normal, bandanele fiind nelipsite şi sneakersi.
Stilul său este unul urban, diferit de cel al frateui sau. Combină elemente rock, raggae (pierce-ing-uri si dread-uri) şi hip-hop (haine largi, sneakersi şi sepci XXL). Şi īn materie de preferinte muzicale cei doi fraţi se deosebesc, cu toate că şi Tom este atras de trupe precum Aerosmith sau AC/DC. Preferaţii lui rămān īnsa Sammy Deluxe şi Bushido. Adoră graffiti-ul, fotbalul, artele marţiale şi baschetul, dar pasiunea sa numărul unu rămāne chitara, de care este nedespărţit şi la care repetă zilnic.
